Q: Brittni want to buy a car that gets excellent gas mileage. She is trying to decide between a Honda Insight ?
& a Honda Civic Hybird. Honda Insight city 57, Hwy 56, Civic city 45, Hwy 51. She likes the Civic better, but the insights gas mileage is tempting. Assuming she drives 12,000 miles a year & about 60% of her miles are city, how much more gas would she use per year in the Civic. If gas costs $2.78 per gallon, how much more will she spend on the Civic?

A: Wait for the 2010 Honda Insight. It will cost about $18,500, compared to the Civic Hybrid which starts at $23,550. That $5000 you save buying the 2010 Insight over the Civic Hybrid will be enough to pay for 1250 gallons of gasoline at $4 a gallon (enough gasoline for a few years of driving). The 2010 Honda Insight: http://jalopnik.com/5045333/new-honda-insight-hybrid-revealed-expected-18500-price-tag-to-make-it-worlds-cheapest Though many have jokingly called it the "Honda Prius" or "Honda Hindsight" because it looks so much like the Toyota Prius.

Q: Does the 2000 Honda Insight have a back seat.or is it only a 2 seater?
I have been looking everywhere and cannot find pictures of any 2000 Insight interior photo except for the front seats- Are there back seats? Anyone have photos up of their Insight from teh back cargo area/back seat area? If there are only 2 seats, do the newer insights have more that 2 seats? Thanks for your help!

A: All Insights are two seat coupes. They do have storage behind the two seats under the glass hatch that is big enough for a suitcase but not much more. Honda no longer makes the Insight. There were only a handful made in 2007 and it has been discontinued for 2008. They have a poor resale value because they are small two seaters that are pretty 'stripped'. The Civic Hybrid took all the sales away from the Insight; the only reason honda kept making the Insight was because of the 60+ mpg rating on the manual trans Insight. In 2008 the EPA changed the way they calculate the fuel mileage and honda decided to stop production. hope that answers your question

Q: Is the Honda Insight Hybrid still being made?
When I check the online car sales websites it appears this vehicle dissapears after 2003. I like it better than that smart-car. I can't afford a Prius and a used Insight seems the best choice in the under $15K range.

A: No. Honda stopped making them in 2006. Everything I have read says Honda will be introducing 3 new hybrids in the coming years. Although Honda is hush hush about what they are, some forums say that there will be a Hybrid version of the Honda Fit, which will likely be the cheapest new hybrid on the market if it is introduced.

Q: How do you cut off/disconnect the wire that turns on the "check engine" light in a 2002 Honda Insight?
(I need an inspection sticker quick before I get a ticket!) LOL Oh and my engine runs fine, but that dang light stays on no matter what. Help me, please!

A: go to discount autoparts. Usually guys over there help you check and erease the codes that your car gives out. They might charge $90.00 for it. Instead if you know aanything about the little calculator like gadgets, over at discount auto parts they sell little code readers and eraser for $40-$50. You can do it on your own. They explain everything in the user manuals. Do not take the bulb out...!

Q: I have a P1166 check engine light code in a honda insight How can one turn it off without going to a shop?
the code manual says its something with the heating systems. But everything works just fine, including the heater. It is clearly superficial and I cannot get the light to come off despite my efforts with the battery or with a diagnostic computer. Any suggestions? thanks

A: even if you turn it off its going to pop back on so go get it checked

Q: Is the Honda Insight worth getting?
I was wondering if the Honda Insight is worth the purchase. It has phenomenol fuel economy but I am a bit worried about the cost of replacing the battery pack down the road. Any one have any advise?

A: Yes the fuel economy is great. The technology used in this car has since become obsolete. The new Civic Hybrids are much more economical and reliable. You can find these used at a decent price almost everywhere.

Q: what type of gasoline do you have to use for a hybrid Honda insight?
can use the cheapest gasoline in it?

A: Regular unleaded per Honda's recommendation.

Q: Anyone know about the Honda Insight?
I am thinking about purchasing a Honda Insight but one thing is still deterring me-the cars main battery life. I heard that it can cost up to 3,000 dollars on certain models to replace. I was wondering if anyone knows which models cost the least to replace or if they are all the same. If I could possibly get prices for each model that would be awesome. 10 points for best answer!

A: There is only one model of the insight because they only made it for a few years they do get great milage but yes they are expensive to fix as far as a price for the car you need to check with kbb.com and nada.com to make sure you pay the right price

Q: Real gas mileage for Toyota Prius and Honda Insight?
I'm thinking of buying either a Prius or an Insight, because these are the hybrids that supposedly get the best gas mileages. I know what the EPA estimates are for their gas mileage, and I also know those estimate can be very far from reality. Any one know what these cars really get for gas mileage?

A: For doing comparisons between cars, you are best to look at the governmental test data, which uses a standardized test to compare all cars. What car are you currently driving, and what MPG do you get with your driving? Calculate the % difference from your current car's MPG to the EPA's MPG. Apply this same % difference to the EPA MPG of the car that you are looking at, to see what your own real world driving will be like. You can look up car's fuel economy ratings at: http://www.fueleconomy.gov/ (For example: 20MPG EPA - 10% = 20MPG - 2MPG = 18MPG 50MPG EPA - 10% = 50MPG - 5MPG = 45MPG As I recall, if you look at all of the Consumer Reports test results (many cars) against the same car's EPA ratings, they were all generally in the 10% off range.) The EPA even states that "Your MPG will vary." ( http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/why_differ.shtml ) meanwhile, on the topic of published EPA ratings, I suggest reading the following article (with plenty of citations for source data): http://www.bluewaternetwork.org/reports/rep_ca_global_fuelfalsehood2.pdf "FUEL ECONOMY FALSEHOODS: How government misrepresentation of fuel economy hinders efforts to reduce global warming and US dependence on foreign oil" by the Bluewater Network, 2002 and "Real MPG: Putting the Truth in Your Tank" by the Environmental Working Group: http://www.ewg.org/reports/realMPG/part1.php As for what actual owners are reporting as their fuel economy, you can look up the database at: http://www.greenhybrid.com/ or: http://www.fueleconomy.gov/mpg/MPG.do?action=browseList or you could ask actual owners (and not random people here on Y!Answers) at: http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/toyota-prius/ http://www.priusonline.com/ http://www.priuschat.com/ http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/honda-hybrid/ http://www.insightcentral.net/forum/ Also see: Question #6, Can I expect to get over 50 mpg in the new Prius? http://www.toyota.com/vehicles/2006/prius/faq.html

Q: I have heard two different rumors on the Honda Insight. One being Honda is going to stop making the Insight.?
I have heard two different rumors on the Honda Insight. One being Honda is going to stop making the Insight. Another rumor is Honda keeps it to say they have the highest miles per gallon rating from the Environmental Protection Agency. Is either of these true? Even with other hybrids comes out the Insight still gets more MPG then other hybrids. I was thinking of getting an Insight how much do you think I should pay for one. If I got one it would have to be manual transmission not cvt. One reason is I like stick better. Another reason is more mpg. I know you can get the Insight with air conditioning or with out a/c. Witch one would get more mpg? I know this is a lot of questions but thank you for taking the time to read this.

A: They are going to have another evolution of the CRX (Insight) A/c will not effect Gas mileage very much (only when you have it turned on will it make a large impact.

Q: How well does the Honda Insight perform?
I live in the Atlanta Metro Area, am retired and need a car to get around in plus make an occasional trip to Ohio.

A: http://automobiles.honda.com/models/faqs.asp?ModelName=Insight Q: Does the Insight require special maintenance? A: No. In fact, you won't need to schedule an engine tune-up until after 105,000 miles.* *Does not apply to fluid and filter changes. Please see your owner's manual for more details. Q: How does the performance of the Insight compare to that of a conventional, gasoline-only-powered vehicle? A: The acceleration of the Insight is comparable to an ordinary 1.5-liter, 4-cylinder engine. Q: Why did Honda develop the Insight? A: Honda is committed to developing fuel-efficient, environmentally friendlier vehicles with ultra-low emissions.. Q: Where can I purchase the Insight? A: The Insight is sold at Honda dealerships across the country, just like every other Honda. Check with your local dealer for vehicle availability. Q: Do Insight owners qualify for the Federal Clean-Fuel Vehicle Tax Deduction? A: Yes. The deduction is available to owners of the Insight. See your tax professional for details. Read more here.

Q: What is the price of the first hybrid in 1999 which is the Honda Insight?

A: more than you would ever get back in saved gas

Q: How do I go about securing a 2010 Honda Insight?

A: You go to the Honda dealer and find out if they are taking deposits on them yet (you'll have to pay full MSRP I'm sure). If they are, make a deposit, and if they are not, you won't be able to secure one until they will.

Q: anyone out there know how the change the belt on a honda insight?

A: I've never been anywhere near an Insight, but most belts work the same way. There's going to be a tensioner pulley, which will have the tension release mechanism right in it, or next to it. In essence, release the tension, swap belts, apply the same tension the original belt had, and you're done. Of course, you might have to remove other components to get to your belt, so look around the area very carefully.

Q: How come the Honda Insight did not sell well?
Even though it was a hybrid and got 60-70 mpg on the highway? With gas prices so high, you'd think demand would be higher, and it wouldn't have been discontinued.

A: U.S. drivers found the appearance polarizing, and Europe has an infrastructure supporting fuel-stingy diesels. Honda wound up selling only 18,000 before halting production in September of 2006. A replacement is being developed.
