Q: How do you activate the overdrive on a Lexus LS 400?
I have a 1998 Lexus LS 400 and every time my brother drives my car, he flicks a switch, a light goes on in the dashboard and the car goes a lot faster. I want to know how he does this without asking him. Thanks.
A: Try looking under the gear knob for a button that says O/D Off or something like that. All he is doing is disabling the top gear of the car. It doesn't really make the car faster, it just holds a lower gear.

Q: How much Freon should go inside of a Lexus LS 400 & how much would it cost?
I am taking my car to a local mechanic and I am not sure what to expect. I want to know a little about what I am asking him to do (add freon to my car so the air conditioner is cooler). I don't want to be taken, so I guess knowledge is power. Thanks!
A: He will charge your system, most shops charge like $49.99 to charge your AC, so if they are charging you $500 you know they are ripping you off..... and for information purposes a fully charged AC system holds 45PSI of R134 gas

Only 1 lug nut is stuck on the driver side front wheel. It apears to be stripped where you fit the tire tool on.
A: Put all your lug nuts back on, drive to a reputable shop and ask them to remove the one lug nut that is stripped.....most shops have a stripped lug nut removal socket. Drive home with the remaining four lug nuts on the car and when you go get your brake pads buy a new lug nut too. Good luck

All the other gears work, should I sell it? or is it something simple to fix?
A: some vehicles have transmission solenoids for their gears...look into that first before you just replace the WHOLE transmission...see if your check engine light is on and if it is have it checked to see if throws a code for your tranny

A: Is your ABS light on permanent ?
because when this light is on the ABS system is automatically switched off so you will have to take your car to the dealers to have it correctly diagnosed as special diagnostic equipment is needed .

Q: How do you get the fuel filter off a 90 Lexus LS 400? Relieve Fuel Pressure some way?
Can break the bond, fitting are starting to strip and i am using the correct sized tools.
A: To relieve the pressure from the fuel system there will be a bleed valve in the engine compartment. It will look like a valve stem from a tire. Make sure when you bleed the system that you have a rag handy and the engine is not still hot as there will be some fuel leakage. I found it on the drivers side underneath the plastic cover on a 96 LS400

A: Brand New: ~$50,000-$65,000

(1990-1994) =$2,000-$6,000
(1995-1997) =$6,000-$12,000
(1998-2000) =$9,000-$18,000
Again, this is estimated and some might be cheaper or more expensive but based off realistic prices (not kbb) thats pretty much the going rate. Beautiful cars.
Q: Where can I find a Starter Relay for a 1991 Lexus LS 400?
I've been looking for a starter relay forever. It seems as though none of the local stores carry them or have them for order. I was wondering where a place is that I can order and get them for sure? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Q: How to remove a CD Changer in a Lexus LS 400?
OK, I removed the top door, but can't figure out how to remove the wood-grained panel to get to the CD Changer. My CD's are stuck inside, so I want to remove it to see if I can get them out.

Actually I was able to get it out, with a little struggle. Now my problem is, how do I extract the CD caddy from the changer? Or maybe a better question is, what's an inexpensive replacement for this changer? I could always go all "Office Space" on this thing to get my CD's out, I guess.
A: sorry to say but i do believe lexus makes their cars so that they cant be messed with unless taken to a dealer or professional so you might want to check with a dealer.

I am getting conflicting info from lexus dealers. I have been told it does not have a timing belt perhaps gear or chain dirven, but yesterday a dealer said the it has a belt. any body know ?
A: check the manual or when you go and get an oil change they could check them for you, it is standard in most oil changes to check the timing belts
Q: I have a Lexus LS 400 1996 and the car want start. It makes a clicking sound and the lights will come on.?
I had the battery replaced about 6 months ago and it worked fine up until this point. I tried to jump it but I beleive the cables were to samll but it did allow for the lights to come on again. Do you think its the starter or something else please help
A: If you have a fully charged battery and you see no corrosion on the battery terminals, then it is a starter. The internal contacts on the starter plunger corrode and do not allow the
starter to engage fully. Not only that LS 400 starters are underneath the intake manifold(Lift the hood and see the
gray thing in the middle- its underneath that). It is a very tedious task to remove this and replace it. Also when replacing this be aware that the age combined with the engine heat causes a lot of hoses, connectors to become brittle and break easily. to summarize be expecting to spend
